Creativity
Our birthright as human beings — adaptive, innovative, or both. DT:FC exists to put creative tools into the hands of teachers and helping professionals so everyone can celebrate and reclaim their creativity.
Creativity as Birthright
We are formed as creative beings, able to develop and change. As Rick Rubin writes in The Creative Act: A Way of Being (2023):
“Creativity is not a rare ability. It is not difficult to access. Creativity is a fundamental aspect of being human. It’s our birthright.”
Developmental Theatre: Fearless Creativity teaches how to encourage our creativity birthright.
Environment Shapes Expression
The gift of creativity develops differently depending on whether the environment is encouraging or repressing. If the environment has not been encouraging, it is possible to recover our creative birthright.
No one starts from zero — the creative capacity is already there. What DT:FC offers is a set of tools and a structured, supportive environment in which that capacity can unfold.
Adaptive and Innovative Creativity
Creativity may be:
- Adaptive — reshaping, expanding, finding new uses for what exists
- Innovative — brand new, never seen before
- Some combination of both
All are worthy. All are useful. All are a birthright to express.
Our Goal
Our goal is to put creative tools into the hands of teachers and other helping professionals. The website contains theatre methods and processes that help people celebrate their creativity and teach the competency skills needed to add “Fearless.”
Other Player Resources
-
Fearless Creativity
The belief that you have the talent, intelligence, intuition, and passion to solve any creative challenge. Coined by Roger Holzberg, it starts with ‘Say Yes, and…’ — and the five DT:FC competencies are how you build it.
-
Resilience
The ability to recover from or adjust quickly to change, difficulty, or adversity. In DT:FC, resilience means replacing 'failure' with 'learning' — and getting up to explore a different direction.
-
Competency
A combination of knowledge, skills, abilities, behaviors, and experience that enable someone to be authentic and effective. Broader than skill — it includes knowing when and how to apply ability in real situations.
-
Theatre Games
An action-packed, performance-based method for individual and group development — a delivery vehicle for one or more of the five DT:FC competencies.
